Abstract:

The paper presents innovative informatics methods for creating virtual technical heritage replicas, which are of significant scientific and practical importance not only to researchers but to the public in general. By performing 3D modeling and animation of aircrafts, spaceships, architectural-engineering buildings, and other technical objects, the process of learning is achieved while promoting the preservation of the replicas for future generations. Modern approaches based on the wide usage of computer technologies attract a greater number of young people to explore the history of science and technology and renew their interest in the field of mechanical engineering.

Construction Activity Analysis of Workers Based on Human Posture Estimation Information

Xuhong Zhou,Shuai Li,Jiepeng Liu,Zhou Wu,Yohchia Frank Chen,

Engineering doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2023.10.004

Abstract: Identifying workers’ construction activities or behaviors can enable managers to better monitor labor efficiency and construction progress. However, current activity analysis methods for construction workers rely solely on manual observations and recordings, which consumes considerable time and has high labor costs. Researchers have focused on monitoring on-site construction activities of workers. However, when multiple workers are working together, current research cannot accurately and automatically identify the construction activity. This research proposes a deep learning framework for the automated analysis of the construction activities of multiple workers. In this framework, multiple deep neural network models are designed and used to complete worker key point extraction, worker tracking, and worker construction activity analysis. The designed framework was tested at an actual construction site, and activity recognition for multiple workers was performed, indicating the feasibility of the framework for the automated monitoring of work efficiency.

Laboratory experiment on using non-floating body to generate electrical energy from water waves

Arunachalam AMARKARTHIK, Srinivasan CHANDRASEKARAN, Karuppan SIVAKUMAR, Harender SINHMAR

Frontiers in Energy 2012, Volume 6, Issue 4,   Pages 361-365 doi: 10.1007/s11708-012-0210-1

Abstract: This paper describes an innovative method of using a non-buoyant body to harness ocean waves. All the point absorbers are buoyant in nature and move up due to buoyancy and come down because of gravity. The point absorbers are designed to move along the waves to make the device efficient. These devices face excessive stress during the rough weather on account of the extreme motion of waves and cause the total device failure. The present study shows that using a non-buoyant body for conventional point absorber principle is much efficient and safer than any other device proposed till today. A small scale wave energy converter with non-buoyant body was designed, fabricated and tested in small scale wave maker. An electrical generator was coupled with the device to generate electrical energy from harnessed waves. The generator was electrically loaded and the generated power was measured. It was found from the experiments that the proposed device showed a significant improvement in electricity generation and safety during extreme conditions. In addition to the electricity generation, the characteristics of the device were also studied by using various wave and device parameters.

Abstract:

The definition, goal and impacts of deep space exploration are summarized. After a retrospect to past deep space exploration activities of human being to date, both recent deep space missions and future missions in 5 years are listed. There are also brief introductions about the future strategic plans of NASA, ESA, RAKA, JAXA and ISRO. Then the authors analyzed some important features of global deep space exploration scheme. Key technologies of deep space exploration are also determined. The status of China´s deep space exploration plan is introduced including CE-1 lunar orbiter, the subsequent China Lunar Exploration Program, especially proposals for the second stage of China Lunar Exploration Program, China-Russia Mars Exploration, Kuafu Mission, Hard X-Ray Modulated Telescope, Space Solar Telescope. At the end, some suggestions for China ´ s future deep space exploration are made.
